White fillings are used to fulfil the same function as traditional fillings but are made of a tooth-coloured, white composite material that fits in more naturally with the rest of the teeth and mouth.
White fillings are widely considered to be more aesthetically pleasing than traditional amalgam fillings, which leave a dark appearance in the mouth. Because they are bonded in place, they can also help preserve and promote the long-term health and function of the tooth.
We will always go through your options with you when it comes to any type of restoration treatment. When it comes to fillings, we find that many patients are looking for a more subtle, natural-looking finish. There are times when we might still have to advise in favour of amalgam fillings, however. If this is the case, we will make sure you feel confident and assured in this decision.
Some patients do choose to replace their traditional amalgam fillings with white fillings for a variety of reasons. We are always happy to explore this option with you.
This varies from patient to patient, but with good oral care, white fillings should last for 7-10 years.
