Designed to replace a missing tooth, dental implants are made up of a titanium post which replaces the root of a missing tooth, onto which a custom made tooth is securely fixed. The beauty of dental implants is that they are fixed so you do not need to worry about taking them out, they will not move around when you eat or speak or smile, and they do not affect the teeth on either side of them at all.
Our team at The Dentist always recommend replacing a missing, or soon to be extracted, tooth wherever possible. This is because we know how much of an effect it can have on the patient and their overall oral health.
We offer a wide range of ways to replace a tooth, and dental implants present a particularly secure, comfortable and natural-looking option for patients.
The treatment for receiving a dental implant usually takes place over a few months and a handful of appointments. We’ll start with a thorough assessment including an X-ray and a cone-beam CT scan, identify the most suitable treatment for you, and do any necessary preliminary work.
Placement of the dental implant is simply carried out under local anaesthetic, or with some sedation, if you prefer. Depending on your situation, you can usually expect to have your new teeth around three months later. We will always offer you a temporary tooth or teeth during this period – we don’t expect our patients to walk around with missing teeth!
